My Trip to Cañon del Sumidero, Chiapas

On November 30, 2013, I decided to get a gift for my 35 birthday making a trip to one of the most beautiful places in the state of Chiapas, México, the Sumidero Canyon.

To enjoy my tour, I decided to read previously about everything about the place. Among other things, I got to know that this canyon, stands on the Grijalva River and a cliff whose height goes a little beyond 1000 meters water level; which is one of the most impressive canyons in the world and in 1980 was declared a National Park as well as being the scene of the rebellion of the indigenous people of Chiapas; so it appears in the national emblem.

A day earlier, I was walking at Andador Guadalupe ( walking street ), I came to the agency Mexicatour, and I made the reservation for 2 people: Jennifer, my wife and me.

We left San Cristobal de las Casas in a bus, about 8.30am. The morning was quite cold, as is natural in San Cristobal, but as far as we went down the highway to Tuxtla, the temperature increased.

The operator, a young pretty courteous and very professionally presented as Alan and explained as would be the tour. As there was no trouble, arrived at the pier Cahuaré around 9:15 a.m.

We went down to the gate area to board the boat that would take us a long awaited trip, which lasts 2 hours or so. There were a few people, so we had to wait out 2 boats to begin our journey through the mighty Grijalva.

During the wait we bought something to drink and we are prepared with sunscreen, sunglasses and hat.

Finally boarded. During our journey we could see several crocodiles and monkeys ("aulladores" I think), in addition to cooling water falling from one of the waterfalls: the Christmas tree, beautiful for its resemblance to the name that defines it. At one point in the trip, we were able to fully distinguish the boulders that make up the coat of Chiapas, Mexico.

We were also able to appreciate the hard work they did the workers responsible for removing all trash that brings the river current.

The trip was just lovely. Now sit back in the Toyota bus, went to Chiapa de Corzo, a place known for its traditional parades "Parachicos, Mudejar fountain and its colonial style."

We were informed that we had 2 hours to walk around town, shop for souvenirs and enjoy the tasty "cochito" (pork) baked. Also we taste the famous "posol" ( a drink made with fermented corn ) and some homemade sweets.

At exactly 1:30 pm so beautiful people left behind, leading only the captured images and the enduring memory of my birthday number 35.
